Who We Are

A mission rooted in partnership

Steppingstone Global Mission is a Maryland-based Christian nonprofit organized exclusively for religious and charitable purposes.

We believe the Gospel grows strongest where local believers lead. So we come alongside pastors, missionaries, and congregations who already serve their communities faithfully and help them take the next step, whether that is a roof over their worship, a classroom for their children, or food on the table for a struggling family.

Every project is chosen based on real community need and carried out through written agreements with trusted local partners, so every gift is used with care and accountability.

Our Founder

Rev. Dr. Steven (SungHwan) Cho

Rev. Dr. Steven Cho is the lead pastor of Ward’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Randallstown, Maryland, and a full connection clergy member of the Baltimore-Washington Conference. He is a preacher, certified life coach (ACC), and published author.

He earned his master’s and doctoral degrees at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., where his doctoral research examined the “spiritual but not religious” trend in America. In 2010 he planted Alpha Community Church, a multicultural congregation for younger generations in the heart of Washington, D.C., and later served Stone Chapel (New Windsor) and Zion UMC (Westminster) before his appointment to Ward’s Chapel in 2019.

His ministry centers on nurturing spirituality, equipping lay leadership, and sharing God’s hospitality. Out of years of supporting missionary friends in East Africa, he founded Steppingstone Global Mission to help faithful communities take their next step.

What We Do

Four ways we serve

Our work is guided by one calling: to advance the Christian faith and meet the needs of people Christ loves.

Church Development

We fund the construction, renovation, and equipping of churches and ministry facilities, beginning with communities in Tanzania.

Education & Ministry

We support leadership training, discipleship, theological education, scholarships, and schools that strengthen local churches.

Humanitarian Care

We help orphans, vulnerable children, and low-income families with food, clothing, shelter materials, and school supplies.

Mission Partnerships

We work with churches and ministries in evangelism, discipleship, and short-term mission outreach.

A Maasai congregation gathered for worship under a tree

Featured Project

Project Namayani: Building Churches in Tanzania

Among the Maasai people of Tanzania, five faithful congregations still worship outdoors, under the shade of a tree. They call it their “Tree Church.”

Project Namayani will build a church, a kitchen for community meals, and a school for the children, giving these believers a place where faith, learning, and fellowship can grow for generations.

Stewardship

Faithful with every gift

How we care for every gift ↓

We hold ourselves to clear standards of accountability:

  • All international work is carried out through established local partners.
  • Funds are released based on approved budgets and documented needs.
  • Partners provide regular progress updates, financial records, and receipts.
  • Two authorized signatures are required on significant expenditures, and an independent board member reviews monthly statements.

Steppingstone Global Mission is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization (EIN 42-2355124). Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
